Kumho Tyres is a subsidiary of Kumho Asiana Groups and was founded in 1960 by Park In-chon. Originally named Samyang Tire, the business was renamed in 1996. The business is still in the In-chon family, now being run by Park In-chon’s son Park Sam-koo. Kumho tyres are popular in North America, with the US market making up around 20% of all Kumho sales. The business now has its headquarters in Atlanta and a manufacturing plant in Macon which can make up to 4 million tyres every year. Plans are in place for expansion which will increase this capacity to 10 million. The business started out making just 20 tyres a day.
