Gislaved is a Swedish tyre manufacturer with a long history. Established in 1893 by the Gislow brothers and named after the village where they lived. The company started out making rubber balls and goloshes, then moved on to making bicycle tyres, and in 1905 it produced its first car tyre. However, the process needed a great deal of development, and it wasn’t until 1926 that Gislaved produced tyres of usable quality. In 1985 Gislaved merged with Viking Tyres, a Norwegian company, and this business was then bought out by Continental in 1992.
