The Cooper Tires story begins in the early 1900s, when John F, Schaefer and brother-in-law Claude E. Hart decided to expand M and M Manufacturing, their tyre repair business and move into tyre production. To achieve this goal, they fast-tracked into the world of tyre production with the purchase of The Giant Tire and Rubber Company in Akron, Ohio. It wasn’t until 1919 that the business traded under the Cooper name, attributed to investor Ira J. Cooper, who coined the “Cooper Creed”, to ensure the company’s focus was on “good merchandise, fair play and a square deal’, an ethos the company still maintain to this day.
